Gophers pitching coach Todd Oakes dies after leukemia battle – News & Observer

Minnesota pitching coach Todd Oakes died Thursday after a four-year battle along with leukemia. He was 55.

The school announced his death and Terri Oakes wrote about her husband’s CaringBridge page that he died “bordered by his family along with a cross in his hand and his favored music playing.” Todd Oakes possessed been placed in residence hospice treatment last week.

“He was a laborer leader, a individual of solid faith — family and friends, relationships, were truly vital to him or her — and he was a individual constantly giving spine and attempting to advice others. He earned our routine better, he’s earned me a much better person, coach, husband, father. He’ll be missed,” Gophers coach John Anderson said in Omaha, Nebraska, after his group shed 3-2 to Michigan in a massive 10 Tournament elimination game.

Oakes joined the Gophers coaching staff in 1999, and 26 of his pitchers were drafted by significant organization teams, featuring three-time All-Star Glen Perkins along with the Twins.
